Graduate Student Funding

Translational Plant Sciences graduate students are provided competitive stipends and tuition assistance as part of their offer of admission into the program.

Beyond graded transcripts, integral parts of academic success as a graduate student also include attendance and presentations at research conferences, interdisciplinary collaborations, and independent research activities. TPSC and Virginia Tech offer opportunities for graduate students to receive financial support for these activities.

TPSC considers graduate student applications for TPSC student grant awards on an annual basis to support graduate student research, outreach and professional development opportunities. These applications are reviewed and funds awarded by a grant committee. Categories are set at the discretion of the TPSC Grant Competition Director and the committee.

Supported by the Graduate School and the Virginia Tech Office of the Provost the Travel Fund Program assists Virginia Tech graduate students with partial grants to cover graduate student conference travel (transportation, registration fees, lodging, and meals). All graduate students — traveling within the U.S. or internationally — are eligible to apply. Complete details and deadlines can be found on the VT Graduate Student Assembly website.

The Graduate Research Development Program is managed by the Virginia Tech Graduate Student Assemby and provides financial assistance to support degree contingent research conducted by Virginia Tech graduate students. Offered to graduate students twice a year in two cycles for each Academic Year, more details and submission deadlines can be found on their website.
